Sound View Wealth Advisors

  • Title: Associate Wealth Advisor.

  • Role: Work closely with the Managing Partner to ensure client success.

  • Insights: Managed accounts, financial planning, portfolio reviews.

Completely new to the world of wealth management and finance, the learning curve was steep.  As I have very high expectations of myself, I met this challenge head on by stepping up my work ethic and self-discipline. The first few months were very challenging and were difficult, being a monumental personal challenge for me to start from scratch in a daunting industry and in a new city. However, once I became ‘acclimatised’ and the work became more familiar and more manageable, I really began to relish the role.  When reviewing my progress after completing my first six months in the position of Associate Wealth Advisor, I was encouraged through positive feedback and began to feel much more confident. This inspired me to recognise that if I continue to apply myself as I did under pressure in those first months and continue to progress as I have done, I believe my long-term growth potential is enormous.  This has been a huge personal motivator for me.

Whilst Sound View Wealth Advisors could be considered a ‘small’ firm in the bigger picture, it punches well above its weight, as our team manage approximately $1.4 billion worth of client assets.  My position of Associate Wealth Advisor at Sound View has offered me a broad insight into the wealth management industry.  On an average day, I work directly with the managing partner of the company and with clients, as well as with custodians such as Charles Schwab, investment managers such as BlackRock and Fidelity, mutual fund managers, trust attorneys, and CPAs.  My daily tasks include, for example, running financial planning and portfolio reviews, meetings with clients, resolving client issues, participating in business development activities and maintaining accounts.  This hands-on position in a rapidly paced industry has taught me to think on my feet, work independently when necessary, collaborate with the rest of my team, think outside the box to find solutions and has also  allowed me to create valuable relationships.  On top of my work, I have been studying for the Series 65 Uniform Investment Advisor Law exam, which I am due to sit shortly.  This study has been very beneficial as it enables me to compare what I am reading in my coursework with what I am learning every day in the office.  My position and experiences have brought me to envisage myself in the wealth management industry in the long-run with the ambition to incorporate my own values to the organisation and to the industry, with a particular focus on the rapidly-expanding areas of ESG investments and ethical investing.
